Snowboarding at Warner Canyon By BILL MILLER Jan 15, 2009 12:00 AM A A You used to have to be young to snowboard, but not anymore. The sport has grabbed the legs of kids from 6 to 66 and beyond. With most ski resorts adding a snowboard area to their mix, it can be pretty tough to find an uncrowded and safe place to learn the basics, or just work the kinks out of your Hillside Slide or Falling Leaf Pattern. Warner Canyon Ski Resort, 10 miles from Lakeview in south-central Oregon, offers wide-open slopes on more than 200 acres where you're never likely see 100 people, and if you do, you'll know you've come on a very busy day. Owned by Lake County and operated by a local ski club, Warner is known for non-existent lift lines, reasonably priced lift tickets and an average of 25 feet of snow each winter. Snowboarders will find the required half-pipe for their more advanced high-flying aerial moves and also gentle hills where the newbie can get up to speed. There's no need for your family to choose between snowboarding and traditional skiing. With downhill runs rated from beginner to advanced, there's something for everyone in the family.
