Cotta leads Cascade Christian past North Valley MERLIN Victoria Cotta lived up to her nickname for the Cascade Christian High girls soccer team on Thursday. Cotta, whose teammates refer to her as Ronaldo, a star Brazilian player, scored two goals during the Challengers 2-1 win over North Valley in a battle of District 6 unbeatens. Cotta now has 12 goals on the year. "She (Cotta) patterns herself after him," Cascade Christian coach Craig Warren said of Cottas fondness for Ronaldo. "Like him, she is a great dribbler and has a knack for finding the goal." Cotta, who wears an autographed jersey of the Brazilian star under her game jersey, broke a scoreless tie in the 41st minute then added another goal two minutes later. Malloree Enoch scored a late goal for North Valley, but it was too little too late. The Challengers (6-1-1, 5-0 Dist. 6) had only seven shots on goal but kept Enoch under wraps for most of the game. HENLEY 2, HIDDEN VALLEY 0 At Murphy, Becky Schwartz and Carissa Giava each scored first-half goals for Henley in a District 6 win. Schwartz broke up a scoreless tie on an unassisted effort in the 32nd minute. Hidden Valley first-year goalkeeper Chantel Pennington kept the Mustangs (2-5-1, 1-3 Dist. 6) close with several key saves. ROGUE RIVER 2, MAZAMA 1, OT At Rogue River, Kelly Birdseye scored a goal 11 minutes into overtime to lead Rogue River to a District 6 win. Non-conference GRANTS PASS 3, ASHLAND 1 At Grants Pass, Natasha Crook, Patina Taylor and Jakki Pilcher each scored a goal to lead Grants Pass to a non-conference win. Pilcher started the scoring in the 15th minute and Crook broke up a 1-1 tie in the 60th minute with a goal.
