Are there any future plans for this area? This area would make a beautiful county park and anchor for the north end of the greenway. — Don M., Central Point According to Expo staff member Cindy Beddingfield, that area would indeed make a lovely park. However, Beddingfield says current zoning restrictions have kept things pretty much status quo. She said it would require a change in the area’s zoning before there could be any serious changes in the ponds and surrounding lands. Beddingfield said the required zoning changes may or may not occur when the area’s master plan is fully defined. Currently maintenance operations in the area are handled by the Department of Fish and Wildlife and Crater High School student volunteers. "They maintain and clean the ponds and that general area," said Beddingfield. The area in question did get some new donated trees when it was burned during summer fires in August of 2001.
