Jacksonville holds off on parking plan JACKSONVILLE -- The City Council put the residential parking permit system on hold Tuesday until it can poll residents to find out how they feel about the new plan. City staff will survey people who live on South Oregon, South Third and side streets near the Britt Gardens to seek their opinions, said Paul Wyntergreen, city administrator. The plan would require residents to display seasonal parking permits on their vehicles and would prohibit visitors from parking in front of homes and blocking driveways. The permit system is one element of a parking plan that would create new parking spaces in Jacksonville as well as implement fees that businesses pay as part of a downtown parking district. Another reason the City Council put the parking system on hold is to schedule a field trip to the streets where diagonal parking is proposed, Wyntergreen said. "They want to bring along a large vehicle and see what it would do to the travel lanes if it were parked diagonally," he said. In other action, the City Council approved no-parking signs on Third Street between Pine and Fir because there is no room for cars between the road and the sidewalk, Wyntergreen said.
