I understand that there are details to be decided regarding the new casino that is planned for Medford. I am leaning in favor of the casino, but would like to know more. Therefore, I was amazed to find out that the City Council for the city of Medford has already spent more than $100,000 on a high-priced Washington, D.C., lawyer to fight this casino! Other than Seven Feathers casino complaints about competition, most of what I hear supports a casino here in Medford. I don't see how our City Council can justify spending this much money to keep a business (and jobs) out of Medford for the benefit of a business 70 miles away. We need the jobs here. I can think of a lot of better ways to spend my tax dollars. Jon Ivy Medford Try music The nation mourns the questionable death of the black youngster shackled in a Baltimore police paddy wagon. Indictments have been made and an investigation is underway. Violence against the police burst forth and the flames of hate and retribution fanned the community. To bring sanity and civil discourse back to a norm, I'm proposing an idea which may seem ludicrous, but it worked for L.A. Philharmonic conductor Gustavo Dudamel, and it may work for Baltimore. Dudamel formed an orchestra with disadvantaged youth in his native land, and the orchestra swept the musical world! Perhapst the same could be done with the disadvantaged youth of Baltimore. Let's provide them with musical instruments. It worked for Dudamel. I could work for Baltimore! S.M. Rosen Ashland Pain caused death I lost my cousin recently, as in, he died. He bought a bottle of 190 hooch and drank it. In pain physically and broken real bad with other personal issues, he found it too difficult to get the medication he needed to not hurt and feel kind of OK throughout the day. Our doctors said no to the needed meds as per new U.S. government guidelines/restrictions. All the medications needed on are on a pharmacist's shelf — he was not a drug addict looking for a fix. He was a young man in pain, 36 years old, not ready to die. Is it so wrong to say, let them feel good? Feeling good instead of dying because you hurt too damn bad doesn't really sound that bad to me. Thank you, my U.S. Government, home of the "brave," the free? And the Americans dying in/of pain. Dave Nadler Medford Book Lithia, too The Britt gets some top performers to our area. Great. Too bad it is so difficult to see them. Unfortunately, every year it’s becoming more of a challenge to get tickets. This opening day of ticket sales to the general public was nothing but busy signals and “no seats available” for most online purchase options. The Britt members have first choice, so they kick the rest of us to the curb. Why, oh why, can’t our county officials (or whoever) get their act together to make the Lithia Motors Amphitheater the premier venue for top performers to our valley and have a full performer season, like the Britt? The amphitheater has 2.5 times the seating capacity of Britt, is also outdoors, and has so much more convenient parking. It’s just amazing that we poor “general public” have to beg for seats at the elite Britt, then put up with horrible parking in Jacksonville, when we could much easier be seeing the same top performers at Lithia.
