Free-wheelin� Friedman helps stun Henley MERLIN � If it weren�t for a necessary bus ride back home to Klamath Falls, the Henley girls soccer team might still be looking for North Valley�s Jessica Friedman. Friedman continually found gaps in the Hornet lineup and capitalized with four goals as the Knights prevailed 4-2 in a battle of District 6 unbeatens. "She goes back and forth across the field and the girls had a hard time adjusting to that," said Henley coach Sue Tenniswood. The Hornets planned to shadow North Valley standouts Malloree Enoch and Friedman. That strategy proved too difficult to pull off as the Knights improved to 6-0 in league and Henley fell to 5-1. "We had Enoch marked, and we were trying to mark Friedman, but it took too much out of our attack," said Tenniswood. "We couldn�t keep both of them marked and set up any kind of attack, and even then they�d get around us anyway." Friedman lifted North Valley to a 2-0 halftime lead and 3-0 advantage until Heather Olliffe broke her streak with a goal at the 60th minute. Lucy Boyle had an assist on the play. The Hornets were back in business five minutes later on a goal by Katy Lynch on an assist from Sara Kerns. Friedman squashed Henley�s hopes moments later when she gathered a rebound in the box and deposited it into the net. Henley fell to 6-5-1 on the season. PHOENIX 7, CASCADE CHRISTIAN 1 � At Talent, Larrisa Wiltrout and Sarah Kieffer scored two goals apiece at Hagler-James Park as Phoenix improved to 4-3 in District 6 play and kept its playoff hopes alive. Annie Kulig, who had three assists, and Hannah Wilt added goals, while Cascade Christian contributed an own goal. Phoenix (6-6-1 overall) led 3-0 at the half. Freshman goalkeeper Kat Cox played the entire way in the goal for the first time this season and narrowly missed her first shutout when Kali Warren scored in the final minute for the Challengers (1-6). A win over Hidden Valley at Hagler-James on Thursday would give Phoenix fourth place and a first-round home match in the league playoffs. HIDDEN VALLEY 1, ROGUE RIVER 0 � At Murphy, Nina Jaramillo scored the only goal of the game 2� minutes into the second half as Hidden Valley improved to 4-2 in District 6 play and 12-2 overall. The Mustangs pressured the Chieftains (1-5 District 6) throughout the contest, launching 30 shots to five. Boys HIDDEN VALLEY 6, ROGUE RIVER 1 � At Rogue River, Jesse O�Gara gave Rogue River a 1-0 lead three minutes into the match before the seventh-ranked Mustangs reeled off six unanswered goals. Hidden Valley�s Matt Johnson scored two goals, giving him 25 for the season, while Ben Downing, Irie Spann, Mosiah Arteaga and Evan Cope added one apiece. Hidden Valley improved to 6-0 in District 6 play and 10-1 overall, while Rogue River fell to 3-4 and 7-6-1 overall. HENLEY 3, NORTH VALLEY 0 � At Klamath Falls, Joe Jertberg had two goals and Pete Isaacson had two assists as Henley cruised past North Valley. Ty Munoz also scored and Joe Salvati had an assist for the Hornets, who improved to 4-2 in District 6 play. Scott Miles posted his sixth shutout in goal for Henley as the Hornets outshot North Valley 13-3. BONANZA 4, ILLINOIS VALLEY 0 � At Bonanza, Shawn Earp scored three goals and Tyler Mockridge added another goal as Bonanza stymied the Cougars in District 6 play. Bonanza improved to 4-4 in league.
