Grizz rally to topple Wilson Prep softball ASHLAND -- Meagan Humann did wonders for her batting average Saturday. The Ashland High senior center fielder went 7-for-7 at the plate as the Grizzlies swept Wilson of Portland in a non-league softball doubleheader, 5-4 and 15-12. "Meagan's a good hitter but I think she surprised even herself," Ashland coach Kristeen Weiss said. "She was a tough out, that's for sure." The Grizzlies trailed 3-0 after 4 innings of the opening game but scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth to take control. Kristin Strait's two-run single and Emily Clason's sacrifice fly fueled the comeback. The Grizzlies again found themselves down in the second game, trailing 8-5 heading into the bottom of the third. They proceeded to score eight runs in the inning on five hits and never trailed again. Strait homered in the second game and finished the day 4-for-6. Ashland, which marched into the state playoffs last season for the first time in 18 years, is now 3-0 in 1999. "These girls have a lot of confidence," Weiss said, "and they pick each other up. Wilson was a good-hitting team and got up on us both games, but our kids battled back. It was great to see." Gracie Roland-Dunn had three hits in the latter contest. ROSEBURG 7-6, MCNARY 2-1 -- At Salem, Brynnen Guthrie's fifth-inning double drove in two runs and helped propel the Indians to a victory in the first game of a doubleheader. Guthrie went 4-for-7 in the two-game sweep of McNary as Roseburg (3-0) pounded out 21 hits in the doubleheader. Keri Nelson and Molly Liston dominated McNary hitters allowing only a combined 10 hits for both games. Cascade's Lindsey Dennington had a productive day at the plate going 2-for-3 in the first game, while scoring the winning run in the second game.
