Hopewell will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Perl Funeral Home at SiskiyouMemorial Park, Medford. Mrs. Hopewell, 80, of Medford, diedSunday (Feb. 3, 2002) at Rogue Valley Medical Center. She was born Eleanor Ashworth onJune 2, 1921, in Brooklyn, N.Y. On Sept. 30, 1950, she married Frank B.Hopewell , who survives. Mrs. Hopewell was a homemaker andmother. She had lived in the Rogue Valley since 1950. Survivors, in addition to herhusband, include three sons, Jeffrey Keefe, Ky Hopewell and Charlie Hopewell; asister, Margaratte Mack; and four grandchildren. Arrangements: Perl Funeral Services,Medford. The memorial service for JohnWilliam Erickson will be at — p.m. Saturday at Faith Lutheran Church in RogueRiver. The Rev. Norman Niblett will officiate. Private interment will be atEagle Point National Cemetery. Mr. Erickson, 57, of Rogue River,died Friday (Feb. 1, 2002) at Three Rivers Community Hospital in Grants Pass. He was born Dec. 12, 1944, in LongBeach, Calif. On May 22, 1994, in Rogue River, he married Ellen Noesen, whosurvives. Mr. Erickson worked for thetelephone company in Southern California. He moved to Rogue River in 1975 andworked as a rural carrier for the Rogue River Post Office. He served in the U.S. Air Force as avoice intercept specialist in the Security Division in Berlin and Turkey. Mr. Erickson was a member of FaithLutheran Church in Rogue River, where he served as an elder and senior youthgroup leader. He was also a member and steward for the National Rural LetterCarriers Association. Survivors, in addition to his wife,include a son, Jon, serving in the U.S. Army in Korea; two daughters, AdaErickson, McMinnville, and Erin O'Neil, Denver; a sister, Janet Latham, Russell-ville,Ark.; and one grandson. Arrangements: Chapel of the ValleyFuneral Home, Grants Pass. Lora Opal Lester Sloan The memorial service for Lora OpalLester Sloan will be at — p.m. Saturday at Hillcrest Chapel in Medford. PastorStan Johnson of West Main Church of Christ will officiate. Inurnment will be inHillcrest Memorial Park. Mrs. Sloan, 90, of Medford, diedMonday (Feb. 4, 2002) at her home. She was born July 26, 1911, inBaird, Texas, a daughter of William Thomas and Eva Lora (Jordan) Lester. Shemoved to the Rogue Valley in 1935 from Lompoc, Calif. On Feb. 17, 1939, inSacramento, Calif., she married C. Spencer Sloan, who died in 1981. Mrs. Sloan was a homemaker and amember of the Baptist church. She was a rock hound and enjoyedtraveling, gardening and spending time with her family. Survivors include a brother, RoyLester, Fall River Mills, Calif.; a sister; three grandchildren and sevengreat-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, four brothers anda sister. Arrangements: Hillcrest Mortuary,Medford. Kent Thomas Fowler The memorial service for Kent ThomasFowler will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Foothills Baptist Church in Medford. Mr. Fowler, 60, of Medford, diedThursday (Jan. 31, 2002) at Rogue Valley Medical Center. He was born June 26, 1941, inSpokane, Wash. He moved to the Rogue Valley in 1987 from Washington. On June 3,1989, in Reno, Nev., he married Marie Noble, who survives. Mr. Fowler was a certified masterchef and food and beverage director. He opened several major hotels and casinosaround the United States. He was involved with manyorganizations and fund-raising events throughout his career. Mr. Fowler enjoyed cooking, drawing,working in his yard and spending time with his family. Survivors, in addition to his wife,include three sons, Dale Fowler, Medford, Thomas Fowler, Maui, Hawaii, and EricNoble, Danielson, Conn.; two daughters, Erica McDaniel and Stephanie Fowler,both Medford; his parents, Emil and Janet Zupan, Spokane, Wash.; two sisters,Pam Zupan, Ellensburg, Wash., and Nancy Betts, Spokane, Wash.; and 12grandchildren. Arrangements: Rogue Valley FuneralAlternatives and Crematory. Charles Clinton Davis The funeral service for CharlesClinton Davis will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Memory Gardens Memorial Park inMedford. Mr. Davis, 70, of Eagle Point, diedSunday (Feb. 3, 2002) at his home. Memorial contributions may be madeto Providence Community Health Foundation, Hospice, 1111 Crater Lake Ave.,Medford, OR 97504. He was born Oct. 10, 1931, in Uva,Wyo. On March 30, 1962, in Reno, Nev., he married Anna Mae Robertson, whosurvives. He moved to the Rogue Valley 40 years ago from Dorris, Calif. Mr. Davis was a heavy equipmentoperator for Jackson County for 23 years before his retirement. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1951to 1954. Mr. Davis was a saddle maker andenjoyed horses, hunting and fishing. Survivors, in addition to his wife,include a son, Charles A., Eagle Point; two stepdaughters, Sandra Mathews,Clovis, Calif., and Bernadine Daws, Yreka, Calif.; a brother, Lyle A., EaglePoint; and one grandchild. He was preceded in death by a sister, Dorthea Ross;and two grandchildren. Friends may pay their respects from3 to 7 p.m. today at Memory Gardens Mortuary, Medford. Virginia B. Wilson The memorial service for Virginia B.Wilson and her husband, Wayne E. Wilson (who died in 1990), will be at — p.m.Friday at Eagle Point National Cemetery. Mrs. Wilson, 79, of Central Point,died Saturday (Feb. 2, 2002). Memorial contributions may be madeto the Fraternal Order of the Eagles Auxiliary No. 2093, 2000 Table Rock Road,Medford, OR 97501. She was born April 29, 1922, in thePhilippines. During World War II, she worked atthe Pentagon and Clark Air Base, where she met and married Wayne E. Wilson, anArmy Air Forces sergeant. They moved to Central Point after her husband retiredfrom the U.S. Air Force in 1964. He died in 1990. Mrs. Wilson worked for the WinemaGirl Scout Council for 11 years. She also worked for Jackson County for 10years, retiring in 1986. She was a member of the FraternalOrder of the Eagles Auxiliary in Medford. Survivors include two sons, Eddie,Medford, and David, in Florida; a daughter, Alma B. Wright, Salem; a brother,Ted Baluyut, Los Angeles; and two grandchildren. Arrangements: Conger-Morris FuneralDirectors, Medford. Gloria Kathryn Vanderbush Gloria Kathryn Vanderbush, 68, ofGrants Pass, died Jan. 29, 2002, at her home. No service is planned at thistime. She was born Aug. 4, 1933, in LosAngeles. On Feb. 24, 1948, in Monterey Park, Calif., she married CliffordVanderbush, who survives. They moved to Grants Pass in 1991 from Simi Valley,Calif. Mrs. Vanderbush was a member of St.Steven 's Catholic Church in Monterey Park, Calif. She enjoyed crafts, art, andspending time with her husband and grandchildren. Survivors, in addition to herhusband, include three daughters, Linda Tabbert, Goleta, Calif., Sherri Wilson,Simi Valley, Calif.; and Kim Roache, missing since 2000; six grandchildren andtwo great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Blunt. Arrangements: Grants Pass FuneralAlternatives and Crematory. Jeanne Claire Shaffer Jeanne Claire Shaffer, 81, ofCentral Point, died Sunday (Feb. 3, 2002) at a White City foster care home. Noservice is planned. She was born March 23, 1920, inBattle Creek, Mich., the daughter of Fredrick and Claire (Templeton) Wildenberg.She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1959 from Glendale, Calif. On March 15, 1976,in Carson City, Nev., she married E.J. Shaffer, who survives. Mrs. Shaffer was the businessmanager for Medford Orthopedic and Fracture Clinic for 26 years, retiring in1981. She and her husband were members ofthe Horseless Carriage Club of America and she enjoyed touring in antiqueautomobiles. She is survived by her husband, E.J.Shaffer , Central Point. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Fred,Robert and Ike Wildenberg. Arrangements: Central ValleyCremation and Funeral Care, Central Point. Beatrice Irene Shaver Beatrice Irene Shaver, 81, ofMedford, died Friday (Feb. 1, 2002) at a local foster care home. Privateinurnment will be at Memory Gardens Memorial Park, Medford. She was born July 28, 1920, in Bend,the daughter of Everett and Esther Grinstead. In 1940, she married Raymond D.Shaver , who preceded her in death. She moved to the Rogue Valley 52 years agofrom Bend. Mrs. Shaver was a cook at HowardElementary for many years. Survivors include a nephew, RobertGrinstead, Winthrop, Wash.
