Okay, we admit it, we really didn’t have a clue what to ask last week. So, with the final (?) installment of the "Star Wars" series opening, we thought we’d get creative. While "Revenge of the Sith" raked in the dollars at the box office, some conservative commentators suggested that there were sinister overtones to the movie. To wit, that the "dark side" of the George Lucas fictional universe bore a slight resemblance to the policies of the George W. Bush administration. Tah-da! We were thrilled, and decided immediately to ask you folks about this ... thereby avoiding the need to see the movie itself! Sometimes, we amaze ourselves here at the Since WE Asked Wookie Training Base. After reading through your answers, please take a moment to answer our new question — which some might suggest is based less in reality than "Star Wars." We asked: Advertisement Do you believe that movies such as the latest "Star Wars" film contain hidden commentary on current issues and politicians? The "Star Wars" story was written in the late ’70s; the only way it relates is that power mongers are power mongers.— Justin B., White City No. Not really. I think they are just made for our entertainment and reflect our present values. — BrendaLea O., Independence, Kan. George Lucas is a smart American and his art may imitate life to some degree, whether accidental or otherwise; but his Darth Vader and the Empire are mere Boy Scouts compared to our current administration. — Darryl E., Eagle Point You bet. George Lucas was most certainly poking fun at the American political process with some of his dialogue and imagery. I think it is great, part of our First Amendment rights and besides, anything that finds humor in the travesty that is the Bush administration is fine by me! — Maria, Central Point Current issues and politicians are a pretty big subject. I think if you look hard enough any movie can contain hidden commentaries on them! — Debbie W., Medford I can't answer your question until the movie comes out on DVD. — BB, Jacksonville This Week’s Question A bill introduced this session in the Oregon Legislature would do away with party affiliation for the offices of governor, state senator and representative. Given the partisan wrangling that has slowed the process of government in recent years, some might see that as a good thing. On the other hand, what would we have to argue about?
