Following Monday’s practice, Mannion discussed with the media the rivalry game, his final game in Reser, playing spoilers, Ducks QB Marcus Mariota, and the Beavers’ confidence heading into Saturday. Below is his Q&A with the media. On the Civil War rivalry: “It’s a special time. I think as a player you try to treat it as any other game. More than anything you get the sense of rivalry from the fans. The way I would describe it is there’s no one that’s in between during the Civil War, everyone’s aligned with one team or the other. As a player you try to treat it as any other game, but you get the sense of rivalry from the fans for sure.” On getting bowl eligible with a win: “We want to beat them just like we want to beat any other team. Oregon’s a good team; defensively their very good. I think as an offense we just have to come out and execute. We’re not gonna concern ourselves with ramifications. We have one game left on our schedule — hopefully we get another one — but ultimately we just have to play good football on Saturday.” On the “spoiler” factor: “Our motivation is to play good football and to win. Regardless of who it’s against, we’re motivated every week. We’re aware of the face that they’re a good team, they’re in the playoff picture but if we need that as extra motivation there’d be something wrong with us. We want to win every game, regardless of who it’s against. I wouldn’t say we need any added motivation.” On playing his last game in Reser Stadium Saturday: “It’s certainly snuck up on me. The season seems to have just flown by ... I’ve played a lot of games here. I’m sure it’ll be a special moment on senior day and all that. I think ultimately it’d be most special if we could come out and get a win.” On crossing career paths with Marcus Mariota: “I got to know Marcus this last summer. He’s a great player, obviously, anyone can see that, and he’s just a great guy as well. I haven’t known him my whole career, but I got to know him this summer and I got a lot of respect for him, especially as a person, he’s just a great guy. I’m happy for the success that he’s had as a player. That being said, I hope we get a chance to knock him off this Saturday.” On whether this outcome of Saturday’s Civil War will define his career in any way: “That’s for other people to talk about. I just want to play good football every week and that’s something I’ve tried to do my whole career. Obviously it’s a game everyone wants to win, myself especially. But I’m not going in there thinking about what other people are saying about me. I just want to go out there and play good football.” On team’s confidence heading into the Civil War: “We don’t want to look into the past too much, but I think there’s a certain sense of pride in the effort we put together last year against them — and they were very good last year.
