Mail Tribune 100: March 21, 1915 The following news items were drawn from the archives of the Mail Tribune 100 years ago. Ewing, proprietor of Ewing's Gun Store , a well-known business man, hunter and angler, has yielded to the importunities of his many friends in Medford, Portland and elsewhere throughout the state and announced his candidacy for the position of state game warden, to be appointed at the expiration of Mr. Finley's term in May. The new game commission goes into effect in May, and Mr. Finley will probably be appointed state biologist and lecturer, given charge of the game propagation and educational work, while the police end will be placed under the warden. Twelve took part. Bernard Roberts won the Underwood (typewriter brand) proficiency certificate, and honor ribbons were won by Walter Hess, Vernon O'Brien, Sarah Henry and Mamie Clark. Walter Hess wrote 48 words net per minute for 10 minutes, which was the highest record made. Joan Whipple still holds the accuracy record, Annie Bateman being second, with but one more error. W.G. Steel, superintendent of Crater Lake Park, presented the ribbons and made a splendid talk to the students, which was well received and much appreciated. Several visitors witnessed the contest.   Advertisement: Why is it your business to see me? Because my stock in trade is to have optioned at the lowest cash price the best buy in this county.
