Mail Tribune 100: Aug. 16, 1916 The following news items were drawn from the archives of the Mail Tribune 100 years ago Comment MailTribune.com Writer Posted Aug. 16, 2016 at 12:01 AM Posted Aug. 16, 2016 at 12:01 AM » Social News Aug. 16, 1916 COUNCIL DELAYS REGULAR MEET The city council last night adjourned without taking action on account of the absence of several members. Mayor Emerick is hunting, Councilman Emmons is seeking rest along the McKensie river, Amy failed to appear and Mann and Keene were late. It is probable that a special meeting will be called, upon the return of the mayor to consider the charter amendment drawn by city attorney McCabe for the solution of Medford's paving question. This matter, which has hung fire for about seven months without action, would be settled under the amendment by giving the council power to reassess paving and put into effect the 50 percent plan, the property owner paying half and the city half. Considerable opposition is expected to greet the amendment, some of the councilmen being in favor of compelling the property owner to pay for the paving before his property, but having the city pay for street intersections. TALENT TALK Talent will have a permanent choral club if present plans are carried out. About 15 interested singers met last Thursday evening and discussed plans for a series of monthly rehearsals during the fall and winter. Rehearsals would be held Thursday evening at 8 o'clock in the high school building at which time all interested in choral work are invited to be present. A few good selections have been sent for and will be tried out at that time. The organization will also be perfected. Such an undertaking will be an excellent thing for Talent, especially for the young folks, who enjoy an evening once a week in instruction under a competent and experienced teacher. Talent is fortunate in having in its midst Mrs. J. H. Fuller, who is especially qualified and experienced in directing chorus work. O. N. Nelson and daughter started early this morning on their bicycles for Klamath Falls and the Crater Lake region. They will be gone a week or 10 days.
