Crater’s Gorze to sign with Washington By Mail Tribune staff Dec 13, 2022 10:17 PM A A Crater distance running standout Tyrone Gorze will put pen to paper on his scholarship to the University of Washington during a ceremony Wednesday afternoon. The signing will take place at 4 p.m. in the Crater Student Center. Gorze just wrapped up a fall cross-country season in which he won the individual championship and led Crater to the team title for the second straight year at the Class 5A state meet. During his victorious run last month, Gorze set a course record for the 5,000-meter course at Lane Community College. He also holds a state title in the boys 3,000-meter run from the 2022 5A meet last spring. Following his win at the 5A state meet in November, Gorze set another course record at the Nike Cross Northwest regional at Eagle Island XC Course just outside of Boise. He led his Crater teammates, running under the “Southern Oregon Project” team name, to a team title and automatic qualification to the Nike national meet in Portland. Gorze placed third at Nike Nationals as he ran alongside some of the other top prep runners from across the country. Gorze originally announced his commitment to UW on Oct. 11 ahead of the Crater Twilight meet.
