Ashland grass fire contained By Mail Tribune staff Jul 19, 2020 06:44 PM A A A 60-acre grass fire near mile marker 6.5 off Dead Indian Memorial Road east of Ashland was 100 percent contained as of 6 p.m. Sunday after local fire crews boxed it in with three helicopters, one bomber drop and five fire engines, according to Jackson County Fire District No. 5 Captain Jim Campbell. Three 10-person crews helped construct the fire line. Two grass fires converged to produce the blaze, which crews were called to at 3 p.m. No injuries were reported or structures damaged and the cause of the fire is under investigation. “The area that the fire was burning was uninhabited,” Campbell said.
