The show's dance director says the musicians and dancers experience peace and balance through their music and dance, and then bring those emotions to the stage and to the audience. "Dance and music intrinsically are able to help one feel better and more centered," says Rosalind Schrodt, Moment in Time Dance Company artistic director, who says she has wanted to produce a concert like this for many years. The concert runs Friday through Sunday, April 8-10, at the Oak Street Dance Studio Theater, 1287 Oak St., Ashland. The musical score was composed by Consuelo Luz, a Chilean award-winning singer and songwriter of Sephardic and original music. Luz has performed sound healing sessions all over the world. "Consuelo shared her work on this topic hoping I would be interested in adding dance to go with it," says Schrodt. "I was immediately aware that we should do this show together." However, due to illness, Luz cannot be at the show. "We'll be bringing in Cyd Smith as our live musical guest," says Schrodt. "Smith is one of our favorite singer and songwriters. We are very lucky to have found her on such short notice." The composition has seven parts, with each section relating to one of the energy chakras in the body. Chakra is a Sanskrit word describing a point of energy in a human body, where life forces come together. According to a press release, in the performance, each chakra is in a specific musical key, color, part of the body and has a certain energy-clearing power. "We have a lovely cast of six dancers in preparation and are immersed in the power of sound and dance healing," says Schrodt. Dancers are Amy Baker, Erin Butler, Joyce Galvin, Shawn Nasralla, Roz Schrodt and Sitara Solowiej. Showtimes are 8 p.m. Friday, April 8, and Saturday, April 9, and 2 p.m. Sunday, April 10. Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door, and can be purchased at Paddington Station in downtown Ashland or online at www.mitdance.brownpapertickets.com .
