Small fire fills second-floor Ramada Inn guest rooms with smoke ... Abdill fined, put on probation for state violations ... Slightly elevated lead level found at Jefferson Elementary in Medford Comment MailTribune.com Writer Posted Jul. 8, 2016 at 10:46 AM Posted Jul. 8, 2016 at 10:46 AM » Social News The Medford School District Thursday received the results from the first batch of water samples from Jacksonville, Howard, Hoover and Jefferson elementary schools. Of the 155 water fixtures tested at those four schools, only one at Jefferson Elementary School exceeded the Environmental Protection Agency’s action level of 20 parts per billion. The drinking fountain in Room 26 at Jefferson tested at 20.4 ppb. “We are currently investigating it and took it out of use,” said district spokeswoman Natalie Hurd. The EPA has different action levels for public water systems and schools and different protocols of testing the water at each. For public water systems, the action level is 15 ppb. The district invested about $10,000 into testing drinking fountains and sinks used for consumption at every school. Neilson Research Corp. is conducting the lab tests. Results from other schools will be available later this summer and posted on the district’s website.
