Tired of thunderstorms, Nancy, or just curious? Our winters aren’t nearly as mild as yours but our summers certainly aren’t as hot. Well, it’s a dry heat (usually). We do get lightning, but it’s also usually dry, which means fires instead of torrential downpours. Our National Weather Service Web site is a weather nut’s dream come true. For the basic statistics that you’re looking for, visit www.wrh.noaa.gov/mfr/ on the Web and click on "Local Data" under the "Climate" heading in the left-hand column. That brings you to a regional clearinghouse of data options. For what you want, select "Monthly Weather Summary" and under "Time Frame" select "Archived Data" and then choose the month you want. This database goes back to March 2004. Click "Go" and you’ve got some great cocktail trivia on our local weather ("great" being a relative descriptor — we LOVE talking about the weather here at the Since You Asked World Headquarters). To give you a taste, last June was hot and cool: The average temperature was 68, the average high was 83 the low 54 and the month’s average was 3 degrees warmer than usual. But, June 8 set a record "low maximum" temperature when the high was a mere 58 degrees. If you want to go crazy and look at more raw data, try browsing around the "Climate Resources" and "Local Data/Records" tab headings after clicking on the main page’s "Local Data" link.
