Crime Stoppers seeks info on jewel thief Apr 19, 2003 12:00 AM A A A reward is offered for information leading to an arrest in connection to the recent thefts at the Crater Rock Museum Crime Stoppers of Southern Oregon and area law enforcement would like to thank the readers of the Mail Tribune for their assistance in locating and arresting wanted felons James Michael Brown (on March 19) and Kevin James Gallo (on April 12). Assistance is still needed in locating Melvin Morgan Sullivant, born on Aug. 31, 1971, who was featured recently. This week, Central Point Police Department and Crime Stoppers of Southern Oregon need your help in locating the person or persons responsible for recent thefts at the Crater Rock Museum, 2002 Scenic Ave., Central Point. On or about April 8, a distinctive handmade golden tiger-eye jewelry box was taken from one of the display cases at the museum. The box is described as about 5 inches in circumference and about — inches high. On or about Tuesday, April 15, another theft occurred from one of the display cases. This time a large amount of opals were taken. The opals varied in sizes and shapes and most were cut and polished. One of the opals was a an uncut rough, about the size of a fist. Some of those opals have been recovered but about 25 are still missing. The value of the stolen items is estimated to be about & 36;15,000. A possible suspect is described as being a white male adult, in his early to mid-30s with short blond hair, approximately 5 feet 6 inches or shorter in height. The suspect's vehicle is described as a small older pickup, possibly red, but the hood and possibly one fender are different colors. — If you know who this suspect is or have information of his whereabouts, contact your local police department or Crime Stoppers of Southern Oregon at 800-3-DETECT (800-333-8328). Please refer to case No. MT-6. Crime Stoppers will pay a reward up to & 36;1,000 for information that leads to an arrest in this case or any unsolved criminal activity. Callers can remain anonymous.
