Oregon Road Conditions & Cams Email Story to a Friend September 20, 2005 Woman allegedly shoots husband Woman told police she was just trying to scare her husband, who was injured By JACK MORAN Mail Tribune A Central Point woman who allegedly shot her husband late Sunday while intoxicated faces felony assault charges that could land her in prison for several years, officials said. Teresa Ann Nelli, 38, was arraigned Monday in Jackson County Circuit Court on two counts of second-degree assault and an additional charge of third-degree assault. Investigators allege Nelli used a .30-30 rifle to shoot her husband, Jeremy Nelli, in the arm at about 9 p.m. Sunday inside the couple’s home in the 10600 block of Blackwell Road. Jackson County sheriff’s deputies and emergency workers went to the home after receiving a 9-1-1 call of an accidental shooting. After an initial investigation, deputies learned Teresa Nelli had gone into a bathroom and fired a rifle shot through the door, striking her husband in the arm, said Jackson County Sheriff Mike Winters. "She told investigators she was just trying to scare" her husband, Winters said. "She fired right through the (bathroom) door." Investigators believe Nelli and her 32-year-old husband had both been drinking alcohol before the shooting occurred, Winters said. Advertisement While sheriff’s deputies transported Nelli to the Jackson County Jail, her husband was taken by ambulance to Rogue Valley Medical Center in Medford with a broken arm. He was listed in serious condition on Monday, according to a hospital nursing supervisor. Jeremy Nelli "lost a lot of blood," Winters said. "From what I understand, he was about to go unconscious when medical (help) arrived." Teresa Nelli has no prior criminal history in Oregon, according to state court records. She was being held in jail late Monday on $500,000 bail. Second-degree assault is a Measure 11 offense that carries a mandatory minimum prison term of five years, 10 months upon conviction, under state law.
