The Raiders dropped two Cascade Conference games at Eastern Oregon, 1-0 and 3-2. Their record fell to 30-22 overall and 11-13 in league, while the Mountaineers went to 18-25 and 9-17. Elsewhere, however, Northwest Christian (12-32, 9-17) was swept by Corban and thereby eliminated from postseason contention (SOU owns tiebreakers over NCU and EOU), and College of Idaho (18-30, 9-17) split with Oregon Tech. That means C of I is the only team with a shot at surpassing SOU for the fourth playoff spot. The Yotes can do that only by sweeping SOU in their final regular-season games today, and hoping the Raiders lose two in their final regular-season games next Friday at Concordia. SOU's bats weren't active enough to get the one win they needed at EOU. In Game 1, Lindsey Walchli stopped them with a three-hit shutout. EOU managed just five hits off Raider starter Brianne Craig but scored the game's only run when Marisa Gonzalez drove home Cassie Wendt with a double in the fourth inning. The Mountaineers plated all of their Game 2 runs in the first inning. SOU starter Cheyenne Bricker allowed five hits and three of them were during that frame, including RBI strokes by Shelby Baertsch, Gracie Flyg and Kaitlyn Reynolds. Megan Winton and Gina Ayala had two hits each for SOU. Baseball OSU 3, ARIZONA 1: At Corvallis, Andrew Moore pitched a five-hitter and Logan Ice’s fourth-inning RBI proved to be the game winner as Oregon State opened the three-game series with a win. Arizona entered as the Pac-12 Conference’s top hitting team with a .324 team batting average. Moore (4-1), for the most part, was dominant in his first complete game of the season and fourth of his career. His lone blemish came on a run-scoring single by Riley Moore in the fourth. That tied the game at 1-1. Ice took a 3-2 pitch from Arizona starter Cody Hamlin down the right-field line for his fifth double of the season. It enabled Elliott Cary, who was running on the pitch, to score from first. Arizona is 23-12 and 8-8. USC 13, OREGON 5: At Los Angeles, Calif., No. 10 USC rallied from a 4-0 first-inning deficit with three runs in the first and five runs in the fourth and seventh innings. Oregon (22-17, 4-9 Pac-12) scored four runs in the top of the first inning. After Matt Eureste led off the game with a double into the right-field corner, USC starter Brent Wheatley walked the next two hitters to load the bases. Phil Craig-St. Louis picked up a RBI when Dante Flores misplayed a ground ball allowing Eureste and Jakob Goldfarb to score for a 2-0 lead. Scott Heineman followed with a two-run single to left to score Mitchell Tolman and Craig-St. Louis to put UO up 4-0. The Trojans (28-9, 9-4 Pac-12) rallied, in part with a grand slam by Timmy Robinson in the fourth for an 8-4 lead. Gymnastics BEAVERS 12TH: At Fort Worth, Texas, No. 12 Oregon State finished sixth in the evening session and 12th overall at the NCAA Championships. Chelsea Tang led the Beavers with a 39.350 all-around score. In addition, Erika Aufiero (bars) and Madeline Gardiner (beam) qualified for Individual Event Finals on Sunday and earned first-team All-America accolades. Tang’s all-around score coupled with a 9.850 on the beam earned the senior second team All-America honors on both events for the first time in her career. It is the third such honor for Gardiner and the first for Aufiero.
