Oregon Road Conditions & Cams Email Story to a Friend March 18, 2005 Police seek ‘date-rape’ suspect By JACK MORAN Mail Tribune Medford police are hoping the public can help them unravel a case involving a woman who they believe was sexually assaulted last weekend after someone slipped her a "date-rape drug" at a local bar. The 30-year-old woman was groggy when she awoke early Sunday morning at a home in an unknown, rural location that may or may not be in Jackson County, Medford police Sgt. Tim Doney said. "She had no clue where she was," Doney said. "We believe she was given a date-rape drug, then sexually assaulted. ... It is an unusual case." Late Saturday, the woman was at a Medford tavern when she left her drink unattended for a few minutes. Doney said she returned to her drink and was approached by a white male adult who began speaking with her. Doney declined to reveal the tavern’s name or exact location. When the woman reported the incident to police on Sunday, she said she had "blacked out" at the bar and did not remember anything more about events that took place there. She reported waking up early Sunday at a nearly empty home located in a rural setting, Doney said. Advertisement The man from the bar was also at the home. He transported the woman to an unknown roadside location and dropped her off. Doney said the woman walked along a road for about an hour before a female motorist picked her up at about 3:30 a.m. The alleged victim recalled passing the Old Navy store off Crater Lake Highway while en route to her west Medford home. The woman was checked for injuries Sunday at a Medford hospital. Doney said police are following several leads that may help them identify the male suspect. Detectives are also interested in tracking down the female motorist who drove the alleged victim home, in order to determine where she was located early Sunday. The motorist was described as a white female, possibly in her 40s. She wore a flannel shirt, had a mullet-style haircut and told the alleged victim she had just finished her shift at "the mill" early Sunday. She was driving a beige- or bronze-colored pickup at the time. Anyone with information related to the case is asked to phone Medford police Detective Diane Sandler at 774-2247.
