Zeth Brower (106 pounds), Logan Meek (152) and Cavin Gillispie (195) all claimed titles for the Comets, who finished with 179 points. Marshfield was first (242 points), Henley second (202.5) and Grants Pass third (184). Eagle Point took seventh (99) and Phoenix 11th (71). Brower won the 106-pound title by beating Henley’s Anthony Kraan, 6-1, in the championship. Brower pinned North Medford’s Tanner Ulrey in 1:47 in the semifinals. In the 152-pound title bout, Meek earned a 7-1 decision over Henley’s Daine Taylor. Meek advanced after picking up a technical fall (19-4) over Mazama’s Davin Nichols. Gillispie pinned Hidden Valley’s Brandon Wrezinski in 1:34 in the 195-pound championship. Gillispie won by fall in 58 seconds over Eagle Point’s Joseph Garcia in the semifinals. In the 220-pound final, Grants Pass’ James Jarrett secured a 6-2 decision over Phoenix’s Trace Vega. Vega earned the championship bid after pinning Crater’s Wally Pendleton in 3:16 in their semifinal. Moses Jackson of Cascade Christian secured the heavyweight crown after pinning Aaron Little of Grants Pass in 2:50. Jackson won by fall in 57 seconds over Cottage Grove’s Adam Lamb in the semifinals. Other locals who advanced to the semifinals were Crater’s Hunter Grant (113), Eagle Point’s Michael Hammond (138), Eagle Point’s Bryan O’Neil (152), Crater’s Tommy Winningham (182) and Phoenix’s Justin Knight (182). TOURNAMENT OF CHAMPIONS: At Reno, Nev., North Medford's Cole Hornbrook placed fourth in the 160-pound division at the Tournament of Champions. Hornbrook, who went 8-2 at the tournament, lost a 4-0 decision to Roseburg's Layne Van Anrooy in the quarterfinals. Hockey SOUTH MEDFORD 8, CRATER 1: Tyler Hanson scored four goals and added one assist as South Medford posted its first Southern Oregon League victory of the season. Kyle Lund scored both Panther goals in the first period at The RRRink. Other goal scorers for South (1-3) were Brandon Aikin and Blaine Johnson. Erich Marschall tallied Crater’s only goal. Karl Moeglein was in net for South Medford, while Zach Bencio was Crater’s goalkeeper.
