PREP SOCCER North Medford, Clackamas girls tie, 0-0 Comment MailTribune.com Writer Posted Oct. 27, 2015 at 2:00 AM Posted Oct. 27, 2015 at 2:00 AM » Social News CLACKAMAS — In preparation for a second straight run at the Class 6A championship, the North Medford girls soccer team got a taste of the road playoff atmosphere against Clackamas, a fellow top-10 ranked squad. The Black Tornado, which was state runner-up a year ago, tied Clackamas 0-0 in a nonconference game on Monday. Clackamas, the Mt. Hood Conference champion, is 8-1-6. Although they would have taken the win, North Medford coach Jeff Thomas said his girls got what they needed to break up the layoff between the end of the regular season and the start of the playoffs Saturday. “It was a good tuneup,” said Thomas. “Ultimately it’s about preparing for the playoffs. Now in practice tomorrow, we’ll know the kinds of things we need to work on.” Even though North Medford (10-3-2) wasn’t able to generate a goal, forward McKenna Wizner and outside midfielder Sage Travis excelled, as did the team’s defensive play. Brinley O’Neil played the first half in goal and Alyssa Tonkin the second half for the Black Tornado. Each made four saves.
