Medford Fire-Rescue responded to two small fires at about 2:30 a.m. just off a gravel access road near Interstate 5 at the exit 30 off-ramp. The agency arrived with an engine and a brush rig and found the fires burning about 10 feet apart. Crews were able to snuff the blazes quickly and limited the damage to about one-tenth of an acre. A man described as a wildland firefighter suffered some smoke inhalation while trying to dig a fire line around the flames and was transported to a local hospital as a precaution. Since July 14, nine fires have been reported along the Bear Creek Greenway between Medford and Central Point. The blazes have been reported near the 2600 block of Biddle Road, the 3000 block of Table Rock Road, the 1900 block of North Riverside Drive and the 1500 block of Pine Street. Two fires caused damage at a homeless camp near Skypark Drive and American Way, about a mile from the Greenway. Medford Fire-Rescue, Jackson County Fire District No. 3 and Medford police have been coordinating on the investigation. No suspects have been identified, and witness descriptions have varied. "We don't have any new leads that I know of," said Fire Marshal Greg Kleinberg.
