The fire swept through the town a week ago, destroying 150 residences and eight commercial properties, damaging about seven other structures and blackening 479 acres. Volunteers have been working from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. every day for the last week to organize clothing donations coming in by the truckloads from around the U.S. for the families left homeless by the fire, said Alonzo Greene, an assistant pastor at Mt. Shasta Baptist Church in Weed and one of the organizers of the community donation center. “We need as many as can come,” Greene said. “We just received another 50-foot trailer from Chico full of stuff and we are bogged down.” Greene is looking for between 50 and 100 volunteers willing to organize the piles of clothes by size and gender. “With those numbers, it should only take a couple of days to get on top of what we have,” he said. Anyone interested can check in after 8 a.m. at the Emergency Volunteer Center, 550 Park Street, Weed.  — Teresa Thomas MailTribune.com Writer Posted Sep. 22, 2014 at 3:49 PM » Comment or view comments   Reader Reaction »  STAY INFORMED   Email NewsLetter   Sign Up Today   Sign up for our newsletter and have the top headlines from your community delivered right to your inbox.
