The eighth straight home-court victory and fourth consecutive overall kept the Raiders (12-7) atop the Cascade Conference standings — a half-game ahead of second-ranked Western Baptist. The Warriors beat Oregon Tech Saturday night in Klamath Falls to give SOU the spot outright. "It’s a nice spot to be in," ninth-year coach Brian McDermott said. "It’s better to be there at the end of the season, but we’ve done what we needed to do at this point of the season to compete for a championship." Junior All-American Shea Washington helped SOU avoid a letdown from Friday night’s upset win over Western Baptist with game-highs of 31 points and 11 rebounds — his 12th double-double of the season. Advertisement The eighth-place Cavaliers (8-14, 2-8) led 21-14 early in the first half before SOU came back for a 29-26 lead at halftime. "That was a little unsettling to start out like that," McDermott said. "But the guys got more disciplined as the game went on." Concordia pulled within 47-42 with 12:43 left following one of eight field goals by junior forward Brandon Erlandson, who finished with a team-best 21 points. Southern Oregon, however, iced the game with a 23-8 explosion highlighted by Washington’s inside presence. The Raiders won their eighth game over the past nine outings by shooting 55 percent from the floor (30 of 55), including a sizzling 16-for-22 effort in the second half (73 percent). Concordia shot 42 percent (24 of 57), and with 6-foot-8 starting center Bobby Lester saddled with foul trouble all game long, the Cavs were outrebounded 39-24. Senior guard Brad Coen contributed 10 points to the Raider scoring column, and junior guard Steve Farley had eight assists and seven points. Wings Ryan Glick (13 points) and Ernie Rama (10) had solid nights off the bench for CU, which lost to SOU for the third straight time.
