Oregon Road Conditions & Cams Email Story to a Friend June 1, 2003 Santos Garcia Texas murder suspect awaits extradiction By ANITA BURKE Mail Tribune A man suspected of a murder two years ago in eastern Texas remains in the Jackson County Jail after his arrest Friday in Wimer. Jackson County sheriff’s deputies arrested Santos Donald Garcia Jr., 42, at his home in the 8800 block of West Evans Creek Road. The Bell County Sheriff’s Department in Belton, Texas, issued had a fugitive warrant last week charging him with murder. Investigators in Texas worked with Veterans Affairs to track Garcia to the domiciliary in White City, Jackson County sheriff’s Capt. Joe Puckett said. The Veterans Affairs inspector general’s office contacted the center’s police department in mid-May in search of Garcia, who had lived there several months, domiciliary police chief Al Frazier said. Advertisement A two-year investigation in Texas linked Garcia to a murder, but authorities hadn’t issued a warrant for his arrest, Frazier said. "He was just a suspect," Frazier said. By the time the warrant was issued, Garcia had checked out of the domiciliary just days earlier, Frazier said. The domiciliary’s police force forwarded the warrant and Garcia’s address to the sheriff’s department Friday morning. Deputies went to his home and he came out calmly to talk with officers, Puckett said. Deputies arrested him without incident at about 11:45 a.m. Bell County Sheriff’s Department officials said the case had been forwarded to the Bell County district attorney, so no additional details , including the victim and details of the murder, were available Saturday. Garcia is expected to appear Monday in Jackson County Circuit Court to face extradition to Texas.
