Defending champ tops Phoenix MILWAUKIE -- Defending Class 3A/2A/1A boys state soccer champion La Salle of Milwaukie overwhelmed Phoenix 6-1 in the state semifinals Tuesday. The Falcons got two goals each from seniors Matt Wissbaum and Sterling Anton and junior Ryan Cochran to move into the final for the third straight year. La Salle, which lost to Marist 4-0 in the 1997 championship game, will play Catlin Gabel in Saturday's title match at 1 p.m. in Tualatin. Wissbaum scored the Falcons' first goal at the 12th minute. He then added a header off an assist from Liam Kendregan midway through the second half. Cochran had one goal and one assist in the first half as La Salle took a 3-0 lead at the break. District 6 champion Phoenix finished the season at 12-2-3. Phoenix goalie Anthony Machada was credited with 11 saves.
