Michele Roux-Mantoan, 34, of Palm Springs, Calif., was scheduled to be arraigned Friday on two counts of third-degree assault, three counts of recklessly endangering another person and single counts of driving under the influence of intoxicants and furnishing alcohol to a person under age 21. She did not appear to enter pleas of guilty or not guilty to the charges in Jackson County Circuit Court. The Spencer Recovery Center in Palm Springs sent a letter to court officials dated Nov. 25 saying Roux-Mantoan has been undergoing residential drug and alcohol treatment at the center since Sept. 16. On Aug. 15, Roux-Mantoan was traveling north when she lost control of her car on Interstate 5 near milepost 16 by Ashland. The vehicle rolled several times, crossed the center median and landed on its wheels in the interstate's southbound fast lane, Oregon State Police said in the aftermath of the crash. The crash seriously injured two of three children who were passengers in the car. Two children, ages 5 and 10, were hospitalized, while a baby in a child seat did not suffer serious injuries, according to OSP. The Jackson County District Attorney's Office has filed a notice that it objects to any move to allow Roux-Mantoan to enter a court DUII diversion program. The notice states she has a prior DUII conviction within the past 15 years, and that incident resulted in physical injury.
