SODA plans ribbon cutting at new office CENTRAL POINT -- Southern Oregon Drug Awareness will host an open house and ribbon cutting ceremony from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday at its new office, 604 S. Second St. The ribbon cutting will be at 5 p.m. Chamber of Commerce ambassadors from Central Point, Ashland and Medford will assist. The organization had been housed in space donated by Asante Health System at Rogue Valley Medical Center. When the hospital needed the space, Asante donated the Central Point office space. "The Central Point facility will allow us to have professional office space," said Stephanie Soares Pump, SODA executive director. The open house kicks off Red Ribbon Week, a national awareness campaign that commemorates the life of Drug Enforcement Agency agent Enrique Camarena, who was killed in the line of duty in 1985. The Red Ribbon theme for 1999 is "Take A Stand." Wearing the ribbons will remind everyone to "Take A Stand" against youth alcohol, tobacco and other drug use.
