South is 7-3 in the SOC and avenged a three-game sweep at Ashland earlier this season. The Grizzlies are 6-4. "We played some great defense tonight," said Panther coach Adam Wagman. "We got off to that great start and (Ashland) just really battled back." South Medford took leads of 20-13 and 24-20 in Game 3 with a chance to close out the match, but the Grizzlies rallied behind the serving of Jessica Walters. Game 4 was more of the same for Ashland as Walters banged out six service points to even the match at 2-all. Advertisement "I felt like we were playing well after Game 2," said Wagman, "but we just weren’t playing with a lot of energy. "Even though we lost that fourth game, I felt like we played with a little more spark." Neither team managed a lead of more than two points in the fifth game until Emily Marshall served out three straight points to close out the match. "I think it was such a game of momentum," said Ashland coach Josh Rohlfing. "When we had our opportunities, we made mental errors and didn’t generally make the right decisions. That’s what young teams do." Jen Mendenhall led the Panthers with 15 kills, while Chenoa Coviare contributed six blocks and Peggy Thompson had three service aces. NORTH MEDFORD 25-25-25, CRATER 17-14-6 — Senior outside Jessica Durham posted 10 kills with only one hitting error and five digs as ninth-ranked host North Medford rolled to the SOC win. The Black Tornado (16-5, 9-1 SOC) remains tied with Roseburg for the conference lead. Crater managed to stay with North in the opener, trailing 17-16 before the Tornado’s Allanah Munson took control at the service line and delivered the next seven points. North’s Lauren Berger had seven kills and four blocks, Munson had five kills, 19 assists and 10 digs and sophomore defensive specialist Rebecca Trager had her best match with six digs. ROSEBURG 25-25-25, EAGLE POINT 17-22-13 — At Eagle Point, junior outside hitter Emily Waldron had 16 kills and 10 digs to lead Roseburg (8-1) to a sweep of the Eagles. Shannon Miller had 32 assists and Kalista Harrison added six blocks for the Indians. Eagle Point was led by Jill Shaw’s 14 digs and 12 assists. Mickie Burns and Nicole Lucas contributed six kills apiece. Shannon Richardson had three stuff blocks. GRANTS PASS 25-25-25, KLAMATH UNION 10-13-16 — At Klamath Falls, Grants Pass picked up its first road win and snapped a five-match losing streak. The Cavers (2-8 SOC) were strong up front as Tess Bransfield had six blocks and Kate Watson had three blocks to go along with six kills. Ashley Franko led all players with 12 kills. Grants Pass committed only one service error to complement a strong serve-receive game.
