Pirates dominate Mazama PHOENIX � The top-ranked Phoenix Pirates continued their three-year unbeaten streak in Skyline Conference wrestling Wednesday with a 49-19 triumph over visiting Mazama. Nick Acord sparked the Pirates with a 13-5 decision at 160 pounds over Matt Teeples, who placed eighth in last year�s Class 3A state tournament. Phoenix coach Harry Mondale was also pleased with 171-pounder Brian Murphy and 189-pounder Greg Brown. The Pirates (12-1) are the team to beat among 3A schools in the Oregon Classic, Friday and Saturday, at Memorial Coliseum. Phoenix opens with La Pine, while Mazama starts with Ontario on Friday morning. Boys Basketball HIDDEN VALLEY 78, ROGUE RIVER 51 � At Rogue River, Hidden Valley�s ability to move the ball quickly allowed the Mustangs to ear 34 free throws and the Mustangs converted on 20 en route to a Skyline Conference victory. Kevin Ries pumped in 15 points,Colin Carr had 14 and Chris Jiron 11 to lead a balanced Hidden Valley (5-7, 1-1) offense. Ries scored eight points in the third quarer as the Mustangs extended a 48-36 halftime advantage to 64-47. Josh Horn paced Rogue River (3-8, 0-2 Skyline) with 17 points, while Jason Luchterhand added 10 points and 11 rebounds.
