October 05. 2014 12:01AM Since You Asked: Stop smoking class included in drug treatment I often see people smoking cigarettes before and after their appointments at OnTrack in downtown Medford. Are people also taught how to quit smoking as part of their drug or alcohol addiction treatment? — Janet Workers at OnTrack, Inc., at 221 E. Main St. in Medford, said a smoking-cessation class is offered as part of drug and alcohol addiction counseling. Some people do stop smoking, but others don't quit, workers said. They said they also frequently remind people smoking is not allowed near the entrance to OnTrack, which has signs posted banning smoking in the area. Some clients continue to smoke near the entrance and argue with workers about the ban. A nonprofit organization, OnTrack offers chemical dependency and gambling treatment at multiple locations to residents of Jackson and Josephine counties. It has a walk-in, same-day assessment clinic weekdays from 8 a.m. to noon for people struggling with addiction. No appointment is necessary. OnTrack charges on a sliding fee based on household income and can bill the Oregon Health Plan and private insurance for treatment.
