Passenger Rail Service
Passenger rail service is not directly available in Me dford. The existing rail line between Medford and
Eugene generally follows an alignm ent built in the 1880s. This rail line, opera ted by the Central Oregon
and Pacific Railroad or CORP, provides freight-only service to the Rogue Valley region. As discussed
above, the line is constrained by low speeds and steep grades to the north and south that would m ake
operation of passenger rail service very slow and thus unattractive. Intercity passenger rail service is
available in Klam ath Falls which lies on the m ajor north/south rail line connecting California with
destinations in the Willam ette Valley and further nor th. North/south passenger rail service is operated by
