Ashland boys knock off Gladstone Boys prep basketball MILWAUKIE -- After days of frustration, the makeshift Grizzly boys basketball lineup finally came out on top Thursday afternoon. Playing its fourth straight game without starters Kris Pavilionis, Zack Potocki and Trevor Streng, Ashland used an outstanding effort from Ryan Beugli and a timely basket by Kyle Allred to earn its first and only win at the Rex Putnam - Clackamas Holiday Invitational. Beugli paced the Grizzlies with 15 points and eight rebounds, while two of Allred's 10 points gave Ashland its final lead with 17 seconds to play in lifting Ashland over Gladstone, 45-44. "That was a real big win, especially for our younger kids," said Ashland coach John Skinner. The breakthrough helped the short-handed Grizzlies close the 16-team tourney on a high note in finishing 14th. Down 44-43, Ashland (4-7) worked the ball around to Allred, who in turn made a nice move to the middle and dropped in a jump hook over the Gladstone defense. The Grizzlies used fullcourt pressure to confound Gladstone, forcing a bad pass that bounced around before finally being tied up for a jump ball with one second to play. Gladstone had the possession arrow in its favor but was unable to muster much of a shot in the final second of play. Noah Shields chipped in seven rebounds while Allred had six for Ashland. HILLSBORO 65, EAGLE POINT 46 --At Milwaukie, Eagle Point managed just three points in its first 16 possessions and never recovered as the Eagles lost to Hillsboro in the Rex Putnum-Clackamas Holiday Invitational. Jeff Eischen, a 6-foot-7 post, scored 14 points and 6-8 Mike Larson had 13 for Hillsboro, which led 32-19 at the half and 54-29 after three periods. The road-weary Eagles, who haven't had a home game in more than two weeks, shot just 32.7 percent from the field (19 of 58) and saw their record fall to 3-8. Nick Rouhier led the Eagles with 15 points and Jake Kleker added 13. EAGLE POINT (46) --S. Ian Elseth scored 14 points and pulled down eight boards for the Cavemen (8-2), who had the game in hand after the first quarter with a 25-7 lead.
