By Mark Freeman Mail Tribune September 25. 2014 1:12PM Robber arrested in U.S. Bank heist Gerald Schram A 63-year-old Medford man who recently walked away from the Jackson County Work Release Center was arrested late Wednesday for allegedly robbing a Medford bank earlier that afternoon. Witness descriptions led investigators to identify Gerald Schram as their suspect and they arrested him at about 8 p.m. Wednesday at his residence in the 300 block of Haven Street. Police at the home discovered large amounts of cash tied to the U.S. Bank branch robbed by a lone man at 2:30 p.m., according to a Medford police release. Most of the money taken from the branch at 1242 Court St. was recovered, police said. Other evidence tying Schram to the crime was also discovered, but investigators declined to give further details. Police have been actively looking for Schram to arrest him on an outstanding warrant stemming from leaving the work-release center when he was identified as the robbery suspect, police said. Investigators initially arrested him Wednesday on that warrant. On Thursday, investigators added charges of second-degree robbery and first-degree theft. Officers have been familiar with Schram since his arrest in July on several assault charges, police said. Schram remained lodged today in the Jackson County Jail in lieu of more than $1 million bail. Police said it was Schram who walked into the bank branch Wednesday afternoon and told bank employees that he had a gun, but no weapon was brandished, police said. Schram allegedly grabbed cash from an employee and fled on a green mountain bike toward the Rogue Valley Mall, police said.
