THEN beat the team that had won a major-league best 105 games during the regular season. Those are fairly long odds. So, we wondered what other types of seemingly impossible feats there might be out there. We asked: "The saying used to be: If they can put a man on the moon, then anything is possible. In that spirit of accomplishing the impossible, complete this sentence: If the Boston Red Sox can win the World Series, then ..." What follows are your responses, baseball-related and otherwise. Hillary can replace whichever mud-slinging idiot we vote in ... who has their own agenda anyway, despite what they want you to believe. God help us get through the next 4 years ...and give us a better selection next time please! — Disgruntled Dave, Medford ... the Bowl Championship Series can decide an undisputed national champion in college football. — Dennis L., Devon, Pennsylvania ... the Oregon State Legislature ought to be able to fund education adequately. — Teena S., Medford ... there is hope for the Cubs! — Jim H., White City (One objective editor’s note: Jim, don’t you think one baseball miracle a century is already asking a lot?) This Week’s Question As you might have heard, we had a presidential election last week. So, while President Bush sets his agenda and the Democrats think about 2008 and the media tells us why we voted the way we did (as if we didn’t know), there is another issue being talked about by all. Unifying the country. Seems like an easy enough task. We ask: "The presidential election results point to a continuing political divide within America. Where should we, as one nation, seek to find common ground?"
