[Jamie Lusch / Mail Tribune] A man allegedly armed with a knife who entered the Medford In-N-Out Burger and menaced customers during the lunch hour Wednesday was arrested without injuring anyone. Logan Carranza-Legarda, 23, was arrested by Medford police for the fracas at 12:40 p.m., inside the restaurant, at 1970 Crater Lake Highway. Customers got under tables and hid in bathrooms in response to the alleged actions of Carranza-Legarda, who authorities say previously was spotted in the restaurant in the early-morning hours. “The manager at In-N-Out, as well as the other employees and citizens inside the establishment, responded quickly and appropriately,” Medford police stated in a news release. “Their response likely prevented any personal harm during this incident.” The episode generated more than 100 comments on Facebook, with at least one witness writing he saw “pretty large rocks” being thrown before the alleged perpetrator entered In-N-Out and started yelling at customers. Carranza-Legarda was booked in the Jackson County Jail on criminal mischief and trespass charges for allegedly being inside In-N-Out around 3:40 a.m. Wednesday after a rock was smashed through a window. Crews were seen sweeping up glass that afternoon. Carranza-Legarda was booked in jail for first-degree criminal mischief, second-degree disorderly conduct, six counts of reckless endangering, three counts of menacing, second-degree trespass, third-degree theft and violation of a release agreement. The state’s electronic court records database showed he only had a traffic ticket earlier this year and no prior criminal history. An In-N-Out customer service representative told the Mail Tribune the Medford restaurant would be closed the rest of Wednesday and open at 10:30 a.m. Thursday. Medford Police Department cited Wednesday’s scene as a reminder to “Run, Hide, Fight” if members of the public are ever involved in an active threat. Run — evacuate if possible and, once you are safe, call 911. Hide — if escape is not possible, hide in as safe a place as possible. Fight — only as a last resort, if your life is in danger.
