Are they also required when entering and exiting the new roundabout at Highland Drive and Siskiyou Boulevard in east Medford.? If so, when? -- Jack S., Medford We're getting on in years, Jack, so our rule of thumb is just to leave our turn signal on at all times. That way if we ever need to make a turn we're legal. You've probably seen us. Problem is, when we set out on the road we have to decide if it's going to be a lefty or righty day. For your answer, we turned to our dog-eared browser link to the Oregon Revised Statutes and put a call into Medford's Finest, but we think we got to the bottom of it, Jack. According to Medford police Sgt. Greg Lemhouse, and ORS 811.400, you need to flip your signal upon exiting the roundabout. So make sure you signal right before leaving the roundabout. That way drivers behind you know to watch for your turn, and people waiting to get into the roundabout will know your intent. Advertisement ORS designates it a Class B traffic infraction, which means if you fail to signal and get caught, it will set you back $242. Thankfully, the roundabout has been pretty safe for Medford drivers. At first there was confusion, but people are starting to figure it out, Lemhouse said. "The roundabout keeps speeds so low that we don't foresee any major accidents," Lemhouse said. "We haven't heard of any yet." But remember, just because someone has signaled a right turn ahead of you on the roundabout doesn't mean he or she will actually make the turn. "One of the major causes of crashes we see is people anticipating what another driver may do," Lemhouse said. "If they have a turning signal on, wait until they actually turn to make a move."
