CRIME Medford man gets 70 months for stabbing neighbor who told him to quiet down Comment By Ryan Pfeil Mail Tribune MailTribune.com By Ryan Pfeil Mail Tribune Posted Nov. 25, 2014 at 5:33 PM By Ryan Pfeil Mail Tribune Posted Nov. 25, 2014 at 5:33 PM » Social News A Medford man who stabbed his 39-year-old neighbor multiple times in April after being told to keep the noise down pleaded guilty to second-degree assault Tuesday in Jackson County Circuit Court. Deloy Ibarra Espinosa, 21, was sentenced to five years, eight months in prison followed by three years of post-prison supervision under Measure 11 sentencing guidelines, according to Jackson County Deputy District Attorney David Hoppe. The stabbing occurred April 22 at an apartment complex in the 200 block of Elm Street. According to a probable cause affidavit, 39-year-old Christopher Brooks had asked Espinosa and several juveniles in a nearby apartment to keep their loud music and conversation down several times, as it was late. When they did not comply, he went to confront them and was attacked by six males, who mobbed him while they punched and kicked him. During the assault, Espinosa stabbed Brooks seven times, which required surgery at Providence Medford Medical Center, the affidavit states. Espinosa was arrested the next day during a traffic stop. The affidavit says he told police he didn't target any vital areas during the attack and "just hit wherever." Lucas Ivan Carstens, also arrested as a suspect in the assault, had charges of third- and fourth-degree assault against him dropped in September, court records show. He was convicted of third-degree assault in an unrelated case from Sept. 9. A 15-year-old was also arrested as a suspect in the assault.
