Medford standoff sends man to jail About 20 people were evacuated from their Medford homes Thursday after police received a report of a suicidal and armed man who had barricaded himself in his apartment with his 2-year-old child, according to Medford police. There were no major injuries in the hour-and-a-half standoff. Police arrested Sean Patrick-Vito Cruz, 20, and charged him with fourth-degree assault and harassment. The incident started when police responded to the 600 block of Northwood Drive around noon. Officers isolated Cruzs residence and evacuated neighbors, said police. After numerous unsuccessful attempts to make contact with Cruz and learning that he had left with his child prior to the officers arrival, police entered the residence, they said. It was unoccupied but several weapons were removed for safekeeping, according to police. Cruz was located at the nearby apartment of an acquaintance around 2:45 p.m. and taken into custody without incident, said police. His child was also located unharmed and turned over to the custody of her mother. Following questioning, police said Cruz was treated for minor injuries that occurred during the disturbance at a nearby hospital. He was then lodged at the Jackson County Jail.
