Robbery suspects described Police urge people to be alert By JULIE SWENSEN After three more robberies that occurred this week, police are encouraging people to use some common sense to help prevent them from becoming a victim. In the first case, a man approached a woman near her car after she'd left Ground Zero, 123 S. Front St. at 12:20 a.m. Sunday. He struck her in the mouth and fled with her purse. At about 5:30 Sunday evening, a man stabbed a Superior Athletic Club employee at 727 Cardley Avenue after the employee, who was dumping trash, refused to give him money. The stabbing victim suffered a minor puncture wound to the right shoulder; neither he nor the woman whose purse was stolen was hospitalized. And then on Tuesday, a man leaving Circuit City at the Medford Shopping Center at 3 p.m. with money in his hand was assaulted from behind by a male suspect who tried to get his cash, Medford police Lt. Tim George said. The victim was able to fight him off and hold onto the money. Now that it's getting dark earlier and a lot of people are shopping, George offered steps people can take to avoid being victimized. He's recommending that people not carry money in their hands, count it out in the open or go to an ATM by themselves at night. He also is recommending that people park as close as possible to where they're trying to go, to go with someone else if possible, and to not leave cars unlocked or packages unattended. "Don't make yourself an easy victim," George said. Police have released sketches of the two men suspected in the Sunday robberies: Suspect one: In the case where the woman's purse was stolen, the suspect is described as a white male adult, 25 years old, 6 feet 2 inches tall and weighing 200 pounds. He had short dark hair, dark eyes, possible facial hair and was wearing a teal ski jacket. He left the scene in a green/white 70s-80s Ford or Chevrolet 4x4 pickup. Suspect two: In the stabbing of the Superior Athletic Club employee, the suspect is a white male adult in his late 20s to early 30s, 5 feet 8 inches tall, with a skinny build and facial stubble. He was wearing a dark-colored wool stocking cap, a dark jacket with a lighter-colored hood, dark pants and light-colored dirty tennis shoes. The suspect in the robbery outside Circuit City fled along with another male suspect who was present. Police did catch up to them, arresting one on an unrelated warrant and citing the other for a city ordinance violation. But police have not arrested them in connection with the robbery _ the case is still under investigation, George said. Anyone with information about the suspects can call the Medford Police Department at 774-2250. Mail Tribune Copyright The Mail Tribune 1998, Medford, Oregon USA
