What business or building was there before it became a park? — Chris C., Medford Vogel Park, recently renamed Vogel Plaza, held its grand opening on May 3, 1997. The plaza is next to the Craterian Ginger Rogers Theater, at 32 S. Central Ave., and occupies the southeast corner of Main Street and Central Ave. Advertisement The park was originally created after the Fluhrer Building, which had occupied that corner, was destroyed in a fire in 1969. It was renovated as part of Medford’s downtown urban renewal program. Vogel Plaza is named for former Medford Councilwoman Virginia Vogel.
