Others were in the house 11 years ago when Southern Oregon rodeo fans witnessed first hand the ride when man and beast combined for a piece of rodeo history at the Wild Rogue Pro Rodeo at the Jackson County Expo Center. It hadn't happened before and it hasn't happened since, but Wade Leslie, from Moses Lake, Wash., and Wolfman, who has blood ties to legendary bucking bulls Oscar and Red Rock, combined for a perfect score of 100. There weren't any perfect scores Saturday night at the Wild Rogue Pro Rodeo, but there were a few changes on leaderboard going into today's final session. Howdy Cloud from Beaumont, Texas, posted an 89 on Good Show to jump to the top of the bull riding standings. Justin Andrade's 86 on Friday is currently in second place. James Boudreaux, from Cuero, Texas, posted a score of 82 on Candy Mountain to take over the lead in the bareback. Boudreaux, who is currently 11th in the world standings, leaped over first-day leader Jessee Cody from John Day, who put up a score of 77 on Friday. Jason Jeter went into Saturday's ride ranked 12th. Jeter, who is from Fort Worth, Texas, catapulted to second with a ride worth 80 points. In the saddle bronc competition, Ryan Mapston of Geyser, Mont., took the lead with a reride score of 76. But Redmond cowboy Ross Hartman and Untouchable combined for a score of 76 Saturday night to share a piece of the lead. J.C. Selvester from Red Bluff, Calif., knocked out a 75 to move into second place. There were a lot of hard-working cowboys and cowgirls Saturday night, but it wasn't as electrifying as the night when Leslie and Wolfman etched rodeo history. I don't know if I can truly say it was a perfect ride, said stock contractor John Growney, who owned Wolfman. But that one particular night, the fever was here. It was the last bull ride of the night, and there had already been a 90 and a 91 put up. You could feel the electricity, and that bull got it on. Wade Leslie did his part. He got in a little bad shape, but got right back and went on to make this great bull ride. The judges saw it, and the rest is history. Both the bull and rider can score a possible 50 points apiece. Until 1991 in Central Point, Denny Flynn's score of 98 was the highest score of record in PRCA history. But a bull called Wolfman and a Columbia River Circuit rider changed the course of history. Growney Brothers Rodeo Co. takes more bulls to the National Finals than anybody, said Growney, who provides the stock for the Wild Rogue Pro Rodeo. They're all related to Wolfman. It's the Oscar side of the breeding, it's not the Red Rock side. It takes everything in place to post a number in the 90s, so to do something that's never been done before still leaves some lingering doubt for those in the know. Cody Hancock from Taylor, Ariz., went into Saturday's session ranked fourth in the world standings. He's on his way to the NFR Rodeo in Las Vegas in December. He's also seen his share of great rides over the years, but a 100 is a horse of a different color, he said. I wasn't here that night, but I've seen it on TV. It was a good ride, said Hancock. I've never seen a 100-point ride and, hopefully, I'll never see one again. I don't think it's possible. You're always going to see a better ride somewhere down the road. In my opinion, it was a great ride, but it shouldn't have been a 100-point ride. Robinson, Texas, cowboy Blu Bryant agreed. There's only thing in this world that's perfect, and that's God, said Bryant, who is currently ranked 14th. It's nothing against Wade, he did his job. There's always something that could have been done better. Look at it this way: If the bull was so perfect, why was he ridden? Like gymnast Nadia Comaneci's perfect 10, there will forever be questions and opinions. It's awesome to see a 90-point ride, said bull rider Corey Navarre from Weatherford, Okla. In my opinion, nobody's perfect, so it's hard to believe a 100-point ride is possible. I'm sure it was a great bull ride, but I don't think 100 points should ever be achieved. But if it ever happens again, I'd like to be the one that does it. Leslie did everything right 11 years ago on the arena floor in Central Point. He wasn't quite as fortunate two years ago when he lost control of the truck he was driving home en route to Cody, Wyo. The accident left him paralyzed from the chest down. He has made progress in his recovery, and no one knows his what fate lies ahead for him. But his name will be forever etched in the pro rodeo record books.
