Eagle Point falls to Oklahoma club PHOENIX, Ariz. -- The Eagle Point baseball team showed signs of opening-game jitters Monday. The Eagles hung in there with Choctow, Okla., but were done in by several baserunning miscues en route to a 10-5 loss. Choctow batted around in the first and third innings to take a 7-0 lead before Eagle Point fought back with four runs in the bottom half of the third. The Eagles answered a Choctow run in the fourth but couldn't muster anymore offense after that. Eagle Point racked up 10 hits with B.J. McFall leading the way with two in five appearances. Jake Kleker, Jesse Stevenson and Matt Holte each smacked doubles. Nick Newmann struggled through three innings on the mound and took the loss. The Eagles play a 7 p.m. game today against Christian Heritage, another Oklahoma team. With one out, Hannah Gettman advanced Jerry Worley to third with a bunt single. Nicholson followed with a ground out to first, bringing home Worley from third for the decisive run. Gettman picked up two hits in four at-bats while Cheryl Gordon went 2-for-2 to lead the Challengers. Gordon also earned the pitching win with five innings of relief. Boy's Golf ROSEBURG TAKES FIRST IN GOLF TOURNAMENT -- At Rogue Valley Country Club, Roseburg's Jason Gaston shot a 1-over-par 73 Monday to lead the Indians to first place in a Southern Oregon Conference boys golf tournament. Matt Dunbar finished second, just one stroke out of the top spot with a 74 to pace North Medford to a second place. Steve Hilgendorf grabbed third for South Medford with a 75, while Chris Daggitt took fourth for the Black Tornado with a 76. GRANTS PASS WINS GOLF TOURNEY -- At Cedar Links Golf Course, Erick Hill fought through the wet conditions to birdie four straight holes on the back nine en route to a 72 and leading the Grants Pass blue team to a win. Ashland's Pete Kirkpatrick and Geoff Davis of Grants Pass tied for second at 76, while Kyle Oldfield took fourth with an 81. The Ashland red team finished second to Grants Pass' 320 team points with 325, while the Ashland white team tallied 347 to take third. Roseburg won the team title with 344 strokes, South Medford was second at 368, Grants Pass third at 393 and North Medford fourth at 394. Tai Kinney of North Medford was the individual runner-up with a round of 74.
