Christensen's Sunday, July 12 anti-gun letter: "Stop violence mentality." Marko Kloos' "The Gun is Civilization" at www.jpfo.org states otherwise. Second, thanks to Marty Koval for his Wednesday, July 8 letter: "The path to destruction." Historically socialism remains tantamount to a nation’s destruction. Marty’s letter confronts "selfish ambitions and sinful behavior as being OK." Is the homosexual agenda (sodomy) OK? Is meth addiction, pornography, pedophilia and other perversions OK? As for debt, the Bible states: "The rich ruleth over the poor, and the borrower is servant to the lender." — Proverbs 22:7. "America Headed to the 'Ash Heap of History?' by Paul Strand for Tuesday, July 7, 2015 can be viewed at YouTube. Also, "The Reason Why Democrats Are The Party of Slavery and Victimization" by Zo Nation (March 27, 2015) is posted for online viewing. Farmer Ashland Taking on climate change I feel more hopeful than ever that Congress is on the path to meaningful climate change action. I recently returned from Washington, D.C., where over 800 Citizens' Climate Lobby volunteers engaged members of Congress in constructive dialogue toward a revenue-neutral carbon fee and dividend solution. This was my second trip to Capitol Hill with CCL, and this year’s meetings were decidedly different. House and Senate members and staff were better informed, engaged in talking about solutions, and expressed the importance of early action. CCL’s legislative proposal recognizes that our country needs a bipartisan path to lower greenhouse gas emissions. I am encouraged by reports from over 500 congressional office meetings last week that indicate a narrowing divide between Republicans and Democrats on the issue of climate change solutions. Now I am hoping for Republican climate heroes to take the lead on climate legislation. May they follow the environmental stewardship of such as Teddy Roosevelt (land conservation), Richard Nixon (Clean Air Act) and Ronald Reagan (Montreal Protocol). Ultimately, may this Congress choose to be on the right side of history and take action soon. Please support our elected officials on the path to getting there. Sherrill Rinehart Ashland What's next? Drive-up window at the pot shop? Wait and see — drive-up dope. You'll probably be able to use a credit card. Whoop de do! This senior man and many others aren't very impressed with the pot shops. Why such a demand? Where is all this going? It sort of scares me. Some adults have been a poor example for the young people for too long. Ron Lindvig Medford Iran deal historic The Iran deal reached in Vienna is truly a historic diplomatic achievement. Understanding, in a world without absolute guarantees, this deal is the best way deal to keep Iran from the bomb, and keep the United States from another devastating war in the Middle East. As both a veteran and lifetime student of history, I hope my member of Congress, Greg Walden, and both our U.S. senators, Ron Wyden and Jeff Merkley, will vote and speak out in favor of this accord that will make the world a safer place. Daniel Guy Medford Listen to the president I remember several years ago, Mr. President asked Prime Minister Netanyahu to stop with the settlements. Netanyahu of course choose to continue with the building. I'm sorry, for the amount of my tax dollars that go to the state of Israel, when Mr. President speaks, they should listen and if they choose not to, others in the region will, which brings us to current events.. Emerson Stone Phoenix Conservancy protects forest In his recent Day Trippin’ column, David Clewett describes the lovely trails, streams and forest environment at Alder Creek Community Forest in Canyonville near I-5. The forest is beautiful and will remain that way forever thanks to a conservation agreement in place since 2001, donated by the owners to the Southern Oregon Land Conservancy. This agreement, known as a “conservation easement,” protects most of the forest from over-development and clearcutting, and preserves the site for research, education and exploration in perpetuity.
