While injuries and illness have taken a little muscle from Eagle Point this season, the revitalized Eagles showed plenty of strength in claiming four individual titles and two runners-up to edge Elk Grove High of California, 238.5 to 218. Phoenix finished third with 157 points. "All our kids got to see some pretty high quality competition and it worked out good for us," said Eagle Point head coach Brad McBee. "We’re making some good improvements. We’re healthy now and putting the best lineup on the mat we’ve had all season." Despite sitting out a month with a broken hand, Jake McCoy earned a championship at 125 pounds. Another Eagle out the past month, Nick Alexander, also claimed an individual crown at 130. Advertisement Stephen Price breezed to the title at 140 en route to outstanding wrestler honors, and Nick Smith finished first at 215. Finishing second for the Eagles were Kevin Miers (171) and Tyler Cam (275). Jason Rullamas placed third (152), with Eagle Point getting fourth-place efforts by Shane Kell (140) and Matthew Leonardo (135). Price was especially impressive in earning his title, going 4-0 on the day with a 19-7 triumph in the championship finals. "He didn’t have a close match," said McBee. "He pretty much walked through the field, and there was some good competition there (in Eureka)." Individual results for Phoenix were unavailable.
