Manslaughter alleged in fatal crash Medford man also accused of DUII, 5 counts of assault A week and a half after a two-van crash that killed a Talent woman, the surviving driver was released from the hospital and charged with manslaughter Tuesday. John Gertsch, 41, of Medford, also was charged with driving under the influence of intoxicants and five counts of assault. Gertsch was lodged at the Jackson County Jail on more than $3 million bail. Police say Gertsch drifted into oncoming traffic on Hanley Road Aug. 29 and struck a minivan with five passengers. The driver of the minivan, Jane Talos of Talent, was pronounced dead at the scene. Her 14-year-old daughter, Hannah Talos, was discharged from Providence Medford Medical Center on Friday, after being treated for head trauma. Timothy Borders, 17, of Medford, is the only passenger from the accident who remains hospitalized. He was listed in serious condition Tuesday with internal injuries at Providence. Stephanie Marx, an 18-year-old Belgian exchange student, was released from Rogue Valley Medical Center on Thursday after being treated for a broken arm and wrist. Sheriff�s deputies arrested Gertsch when he was released from RVMC at 11 a.m. Tuesday, after being treated for injuries to the head, leg and wrist. They charged him with first-degree manslaughter, two counts of second-degree assault, three counts of third-degree assault and driving under the influence of intoxicants. Gertsch is scheduled to be arraigned today, according to the Jackson County district attorney�s office. His case will be presented to the grand jury for indictment on Thursday.
