Shooting at Grants Pass business leads to 2 arrests By Mail Tribune staff Jan 03, 2022 09:23 AM A A Two men were arrested on felony charges in the wake of a New Year’s Day shooting investigation involving a Grants Pass business that closed a roadway for several hours. Tony Robert Smith, 45, and Shawn Troy Schill, 21, were booked in the Josephine County Jail Saturday on felony weapon use and criminal mischief charges on accusation that they shot out the window of an AT&T store at 150 NE Agness Avenue from a nearby residence. The call reporting damage to the business window was first reported about 9 a.m. Saturday, according to a release issued by Grants Pass police. Police closed Fairview Avenue in the blocks between the cell phone store and the WinCo along Redwood Highway for the better part of the day Saturday while detectives worked with a crash reconstructionist and canvassed the area. The crash reconstructionist ultimately determined that gunfire caused the window to break. Witness statements and evidence collected at the scene helped detectives link the shooting to Smith and Schill. Grants Pass police will refer the case to the Josephine County District Attorney’s Office. As of 9:15 a.m. Monday morning, no charges had yet been filed in the case. Josephine County Jail records show that Smith was booked in the jail Saturday on charges of unlawful use or carrying a dangerous weapon, first-degree criminal mischief and recklessly endangering another person after posting 10% bond on $25,000 bail. Schill remained an inmate in the jail on identical charges and bail as of Monday morning.
