Historic Walking Tours: Ben Truwe leads free historic walking tours of downtown Medford at 11 a.m. the third Saturday of every month. Visitors should call in advance, then meet at the Southern Oregon Historical Society's History Center, 106 N. Central Ave. Call 541-773-8369. Jacksonville Victorian Christmas: Experience Christmas from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. every Saturday and Sunday in December at the historic Beekman House, 470 E. California St., Jacksonville. Costumed docents will share the origins of many popular holiday traditions along with stories of the Beekman family's holiday festivities of the 1800s. Tours begin every 15 minutes and last one hour. Admission is $5, $3 for seniors ages 65 and older and students ages 6 through 12, and will be available at the door. Tour admission is $2 on Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 27-28, for those who bring canned food items for ACCESS. For people who wish to pay the full tour admission, the difference will be donated to ACCESS. Entrance to a Christmas bazaar is free. Also in Jacksonville, horse-drawn wagon rides, street carolers and Father Christmas will be available Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 20-21, at the historic courthouse, corner of Fifth and D streets. Paddington Station Craft Event: Make "Jingle Bell Rock" jingling bell door hangers and meet Santa from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 20, at Paddington Station, 125 E. Main St., Ashland. Rogue Gallery & Art Center: Kids and their families can create and explore art from noon to 2 p.m. the third Saturday of every month at the Rogue Gallery & Art Center, 40 S. Bartlett St., Medford. Dancing People Company: The modern dance troupe will present its annual winter solstice show, “Call Back the Sun,” at 7:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 20-21, and 2 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 21,at the Historic Ashland Armory, 208 Oak St. The troupe will be joined by various musicians, aerialists and dancers, including Darcy Danielson, Uphonic Sound System, Cornflower, the Curtain Climbers, a dance performance group from Southern Oregon University, Vanessa Nowitsky, West African Dancers and Robin Bryant's HeartDance. Evening shows will be followed by open community dances with live music by a band made up of musicians from the show. Tickets cost $10 for the 2 p.m. Saturday preview; $15 for the 2 p.m. Sunday show ($10 for age 11 and younger). Saturday and Sunday evening shows cost $17, $10 for age 11 and younger. Tolkein Costume Celebration:  People are encouraged to don costumes based on "The Hobbit" or the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy in a "Middle Earth Merry Celebration" from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 20, at the Medford library, 205 S. Central Ave. Participants will have their picture taken in a costume contest at the celebration, and at Tolkein film showings occurring through Dec. 31, with the winner will be announced after Dec. 31. Call 541-774-8685 or see www.jcls.org. Hanukkah Party: Temple Emek Shalom will celebrate the fifth night of Hanukkah from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 20, at 1800 E. Main St., Ashland. Events will include arts and crafts for children, a Havdallah ceremony, a Hannukiah lighting, a potluck dinner, and an all-ages storytelling event. Attendees should bring their own Hannukiah with six candles, and a vegetarian potluck dish to share. Admission is a suggested donation of $10 to $20 per family to help cover costs. Mountain Ave., Ashland. Events will include a community candle lighting, a storytelling with Debra Zaslow, and a Hanukkah sing-a-long, dreidle spinning, beeswax candle rolling and face-painting. Cyd Smith: The singer, songwriter and guitarist will perform progressive folk music from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 20, at Belle Fiore, 955 Dead Indian Memorial Road, Ashland. "First Frost" Rink Celebration: The Ashland Rotary Centennial Ice Rink will hold its "First Frost" seasonal grand opening from 6 to 10 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 20, at the rink, 95 Winburn Way, Ashland. Events will include a recreational skate with DJ Hope, visits from rink mascot Chilly the Snowman, ice sculpting by Roger Butterfield and performances by the Southern Oregon Figure Skating Club. The event had originally been set for Nov. 22, but was rescheduled due to poor ice quality caused by warmer temperatures. Admission is $3 for adults plus a skate rental fee of $2.50 per pair. Nutcracker Ballet: Studio Roxander will present its annual production of "The Nutcracker Ballet" at 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 20, at Crater High School's Performing Arts Center, 655 N. Third St., Central Point. This interpretation of "The Nutcracker" taps into the superhero craze. The dancers follow the masked nutcracker on a journey filled with magic dolls, flurries of snowflakes and visions of sugarplums. Visit the Kingdom of Sweets after 1 p.m. Get a photo taken with the dancers for $5. Leslie Kendall & Friends: The jazz singer, along with guitarist Ed Dunsavage, bassist Joe Cohoon, reed player Daryl Fjeldheim and drummer Chicken Hirsh, will present "Jazz in the Vineyard," a concert of holiday favorites and jazz classics by such composers as Cole Porter, Irving Berlin, George Gershwin, Jimmy Van Heusan and others, at 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 20, at Paschal Winery, 1122 Suncrest Road, Talent. Proceeds will benefit Siskiyou Music Project's Artists-in-Schools Program. Southern Oregon Repertory Singers: The 60-voice choir, directed by Paul French, will present “The Holly and the Ivy," a program of carols from around the world, with performances set for 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 20, and 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 21, in the Music Recital Hall on the Southern Oregon University campus, 1250 Siskiyou Blvd., Ashland. The concerts will feature traditional and new compositions from England, Ireland, France, Africa and America. Look for "Silent Night" sung in Spanish, "Ave Maris Stella" by U.S. composer Mark Thomas, Fredrik Sixten's "There Is No Rose" and more. The singers will be accompanied by winds, harp, piano, organ, and a consort of viols. The choir will be joined by the North Medford High School Choir for several selections. Free preconcert lectures will be offered one hour before each concert. Tickets cost $22, $25 or $29, $5 for students, and can be purchased at Music Coop and Paddington Station.
